Before we begin the workshop, take a moment to think about your lens for today's workshop.  In other words, are you looking for new ideas not matter the relationship to your content area or to a specific aspect of teaching and learning?  Or perhaps you're looking for ways to address the ACTFL National Standards for Foreign Language Education?


Using the tools and resources that are most comfortable for you, take advantage of this opportunity to take notes, bookmark and annotate web resources, and reflect on what you're learning.  You'll be glad you did!

 Technology trends and world languages


Welcome and graphical overview of today's session [Activity: What guidelines do you think we need to learn together?]

What are the essential elements in a successful world languages classroom? [Hands-on brainstorm, voting, and debrief]

What are the trends in educational technology?  [Review and discussion]
Let me try!  With partner, you'll choose from among one of the three following ideas for learning how to Storify:
  1. How you or someone else uses a web-based tool to address at topic you teach (including an example from the web)

  2. How technology supports the ACTFL National Standards for Foreign Language Education  You may want to reference the following resources related to world languages:
  3. A topic in the target language using current information to support student understanding.

 The intersection of technology, pedagogy, and content


  1. TPACK Model and World Languages Activity Types

  2. SAMR Model  and example: World Languages Students are Poppleting

  3. Let's participate and analzye the following example via TPACK and SAMR: Setting the Stage
  • Worried about Copyright when using images from the web?  You should be.  Calm your fears, and play it safe by using the Creative Commons Search Engine with your students

 Empowering language learners: Where do we implement technology?

  2. Diagnosis - How do we assess and gather data on students to monitor progress, create personalize learning plans, and update other stakeholders?
